A 150/175hp motor would be good all around. With proper setup it would be a 60mph boat with enough power to pull tubers and wakeboarders (who even waterskis anymore?)

Ideally you should invest in a hydraulic jackplate. That way you can raise the motor for speed, and lower it for digging power.

I can tell you, if it's original, and especially if it's been sitting outside uncovered, that sucker is good and rotten. I have yet to see an original hydrostream with a solid dry core or transom. Howard had even said himself, he didn't build these expecting them to still be around 30+ years later and they were pumping them out as fast as they could so the quality control was not the greatest. The good news is, once you redo them, properly, they will last another 30+ years easily and then some.

Thank you and I hope the core and transom are okay in it. It has sat out in the weather for a while now, and someone stole just about everything off of it including the motor and the wheels and tires off the trailer. But I am hoping to get it back in running condition and use it as a ski boat next year. Would you happen to have any suggestions on what kind of motor I should put on it?

That is a Vamp. Has the Ventua II hull. One of the fastest hulls. A good dry solid Vamp wont take much to make it go really fast. And all around great tube and ski boats.

Here is my Vamp (the brown boat). Needs the whole works, new core, transom, stringers, floor, everything. Its gonna be a big project but to me, worth it in the end.
